A 2-night stay in Valencia was one of the best city trips I’ve done. While COVID-19 is going on and Spain is put on the list as code orange or red in many countries. That means that you probably need to do self-isolation when you go back home and luckily in Italy that was not the case. So this for me is more reason to visit this country, places because I expect not much tourism and that will give me more a chance to get to know this place better. Valencia was this time on the list. I fly out from Milan Malpensa airport to Valencia and booked for 2 nights a hotel what was in the centre of Valencia.
Day number 1:
I started with a nice walk in the direction of the old town via plaza del Ayuntamiento (famous square located in the heart of Valencia). Before visiting Valencia I did my research on what to see and to do. I’ve read about the old cathedral of Valencia, this cathedral is supposed to have a view from the top over the city. I paid entree and started walking up the stairs and trust me, think twice about this because the stairs where claustrophobic. Also, I realized that my condition needs some improvement. I have to say though, it was worth the effort as the view was stunning.
2 minutes walk from the cathedral I found a bar Horchateria Santa Catalina. This bar is one of the known ones and they have the typical Valencian drink, the Horchata. This drink is made of milk, plant almonds, water and sugar. I drank this with the Fanton a sweet bread.
Walking through the old town I found a shop where they sell all kinds of different gifts. I couldn’t go home with empty hands so I got a nice surprise for home. The gift is not passed yet so I can’t say anything about it…
Day number 2:
After a good breakfast in the hotel. The planning was to see the beachside of Valencia what was over an hour walk. So renting a bike was a good idea. Through the city everywhere there were signs of bike rentals. On the way to the beach, I had my bike route via the beautiful Turia park. At the end of this park, you find the impressive art and science museum well know as the museum surrounded by a big swimming pool. Dipped my foot, I wanted to know how cold it was.
Continued the trip to the beach. At arrival parked the bikes at the boulevard and chosen a bar for a drink and a nibble. I still had loads of time before I had to return the bike. The boulevard was only a few people and the bars/restaurant were half empty because of the COVID19. Behind the boulevard is the area Cabanyal, you can’t miss it because of the coloured houses.
Then it was time for lunch because I love my food. I went to the best paella restaurant in Valencia. Wow, they can cook! This restaurant is also in the top 5 of the best paella Valencia called Casa Carmella. This has put the standard up now it’s hard to find who can be as good or better. After lunch, I headed back to the hotel for a fresh up and change.
I returned the bikes and went straight to another bar for a coffee cause I was tired from the last 2 day’s exercise. This bar is in the hotel Cathedral Suites on the top floor and had a view over the cathedral. Yeah, coffee was really good, you see my happy face on the photos. I was letting everything sink in how beautiful my stay so far was in this city. I was excited to write this blog and share my experience. I hope you enjoyed my story and see you in the next story.
